Some ideas for Fear To Hope (assuming this is getting sent to Dr. Atkinson)
Hi, Dr. Atkinson,
My name is Hailey Hill, and I am an Environmental and Organismal Biology student working with Dr. Loy and the Pamunkey Tribe on American Shad in the Pamunkey River.
- Creating a section of the project dedicated to POC students who plan on entering a STEM-based field.
- It could potentially bring together groups of students from different schools into a group to do tasks or research.
- Encourage leadership, creating new connections, and encouraging social skills.
- Encouraging Tribal connections within Fear to Hope and potentially working with the Environmental Resource departments with certain tribes, and such.
- For example, with Pamunkey, my tribe is constantly working with schools and such for not only research, but also to allow students to learn outside of a school setting about topics they might not cover in class.
- Potentially could combine research with other faculty with F2H, and allow students at schools to see the work that gets done at a University level, and allow them to participate.
- Allow students the opportunity to see how research is conducted at a university level and allow them to participate.
- Encourage higher education and potentially encourage students to pursue STEM-based fields.
If any of these ideas are of interest, feel free to reach out to me @ hailey.hill.23@cnu.edu. I'd be happy to chat!
Respectfully,
Hailey Hill
