In the face of unprecedented environmental challenges, the Fridays for Future movement has emerged as a beacon of hope. Led by passionate and committed youth activists, it has inspired millions worldwide to demand immediate action on the climate crisis. The movement has gained momentum through its decentralized structure, large-scale protests, social media campaigns, and acts of civil disobedience. Fridays for Future has successfully raised global awareness about the climate crisis and put immense pressure on governments and institutions to take meaningful action.

Founded by Greta Thunberg, a 22-year-old Swedish environmental activist, the movement has become a household name and a symbol of hope in the fight against climate change. Thunberg developed an interest in the environment from a young age, deeply affected by images of plastic pollution in the ocean and the destruction of rainforests. As her concern for the planet grew, she became increasingly alarmed by the lack of action to address these pressing issues. In 2018, at the age of 15, Thunberg began her solo protest outside the Swedish parliament, holding a sign that read "Skolstrejk för klimatet," or "School strike for the climate" in English. Her solitary protest quickly gained attention and support, attracting crowds of young people who joined her call for action on climate change (TEDxStockholm).

As Thunberg's protests gained momentum, her efforts caught national and international attention. She was invited to speak at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Katowice, Poland, in December 2018, and at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, in January 2019. Thunberg's passionate and direct speeches, in which she called out leaders for their inaction on climate issues, resonated with people around the world.

Thunberg's leadership has been a driving force behind the success of the Fridays for Future movement. It has relied on decentralized organizing, with young people worldwide taking charge of planning and executing protests and other actions. Thunberg's high-profile activism and powerful speeches have helped raise awareness of the movement and attract supporters.

More recently, Greta has led multiple flotillas to Palestine to support the people there as they endure genocide, starvation, and a lack of shelter. She demonstrates compassion and a commitment to justice, regardless of the risks involved. This dedication makes Greta Thunberg an exceptional activist and a role model for younger generations, inspiring them to pursue justice rather than remain bystanders.

Fridays for Future has profoundly influenced policy by emphasizing the importance of renewable energy and the urgent need to reduce carbon emissions. This global movement has galvanized a new generation of activists, cultivating a robust network of individuals and organizations committed to addressing climate change. Although it has faced criticism for being perceived as too radical and not sufficiently addressing the specific needs of developing nations, Fridays for Future has consistently demonstrated its ability to create meaningful and lasting change. Through peaceful protests and direct action, the movement has garnered support from political leaders, prompting governments to take substantive action and establish ambitious goals for implementing green solutions. By organizing worldwide events, Fridays for Future has raised awareness and created an inclusive platform for public engagement. As a result, it has emerged as a pivotal force in the fight against global warming and climate change, enhancing understanding of environmental issues and inspiring a new wave of activists to unite in the demand for real change (Fridays for Future).

Scientific evidence underscores the significant impact the movement has had on public opinion and political landscapes, leading to numerous commitments from governments and institutions in support of the Fridays for Future initiative. As the movement continues to expand and inspire individuals globally, it is crucial for governments, institutions, and citizens to collaborate effectively to maintain this momentum and achieve its goals. Together, we can build a sustainable future for generations to come, one where environmental priorities take precedence and are passionately safeguarded.

Greta Thunberg's speeches and activism have earned her multiple accolades, including being named Time magazine's "Person of the Year" in 2019 and receiving a nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2020. Thunberg has become a prominent advocate for climate justice, highlighting the disproportionate impacts of climate change on the world's most vulnerable populations (Stott). 

Despite her successes and global influence, Thunberg has encountered criticism and resistance from various quarters. Some have labeled her as too radical and alarmist in her rhetoric and subjected her to personal attacks and online harassment. Nevertheless, Thunberg has remained unwavering in her commitment to climate action, continuing to inspire millions of young people worldwide.

In conclusion, the Fridays for Future movement and Greta Thunberg’s leadership illustrate that collective passion and determination can drive real change. Through decentralized organizing, large-scale protests, and direct action, the movement has captured global attention and exerted substantial pressure on governments and institutions to address the climate crisis meaningfully. Its success has inspired a generation of activists dedicated to combating climate change and fostering a sustainable future. Kip Redick Example of an Outside Reading Post

 Recently I decided to give the renowned masterpiece by Jon Krakauer known as Into the Wild  another read. Needless to say I was just as heartbroken as the first time I read this novel/watched the 2007 film. I felt the need to discuss the work here simply because I feel it relates to a lot of discussions we have been having in class. I mean think about it, a young man sets out across the country to explore creation as it was intended to be experienced. As the story progresses, I remember being left with a sense of wonder, even thinking things along the lines of "I wonder would what happen if I just decided to do this one day?" Kip Redick Student's Free Choice Example

  Here is an example which would be a free choice entry.    Since last semester, I have been on e-board for the Green Team at CNU. I am the sustainability and research chair and my role is to make campus more green and sustainability which is challenging because CNU tends to be stubborn and not want to change. Although I have been struggling to do my job and change things, I have gotten so much insight from the other Green Team members because we come from different customs and view points. We have bonded over our love for the environment and our need to change. We have our own rituals were we try to connect with nature through meditation, yoga, and reciting poems and sharing ideas. We have a big/little system called Oaks and Acorns in order for new members to know how the group works and become close to each other.
