CNU's Campus - Ollie Schlosser
One of the most notable aspects of Christopher Newport is its stunning campus. I have been told how beautiful our campus is more times than I can count from visiting friends, family members, and other students. Given the amount of time and money that CNU’s grounds crew spends on the campus, I would hope they find it beautiful! As the end of the semester is here and graduation approaches, I have been reflecting on our campus. More specifically, during the latter halves of the semesters when finals begin, workloads multiply. As I am sure most of us are, stress is also heightened during these times. For me, walking around campus is always a great way to relieve it. Being at this school for a few years, I have found secluded spots around campus that are fantastic for sitting and feeling the wind or sun for a few minutes. I have found the effects of this to resemble those of forest bathing, but not to the same degree that the concept suggests. Some of the spots I enjoy sitting on campus could be classified as ideal for enjoying the trees or flowers and forest bathing. However, I also understand that CNU’s campus has not always looked this way because of our grounds crew’s meticulous upkeep and installation of different projects. Because the campus has been engineered for aesthetic pleasure, or because it is a human construct, I am honestly not sure if the concept still applies. Regardless, I have been very grateful that our campus is so easy on the eyes, especially during finals periods.
