Greed blocking development - Evie Cantú

During the talk with Dr. Atkinson he mentioned the situation with the I think it was salt marshes, where the man he was talking to had to change the surrounding area because it was a potential hazard, and how it would cost him around 2 million dollars- but the man decided to totally disregard what Dr. Atkinson was saying because he could benefit financially from the ordeal, I feel like that whole ordeal unfortunately is something that the is present all over the world. I feel like it’s very evident especially with the current administration, with there being increased oil drilling in Alaska, even though it poses a serious risk with the thawing permafrost. I think that because of people’s own greed it keeps us from progressing with sustainability. In my geography class we are currently talking about the climate crisis and how in order for us to stay below the temperature limit we have to cut down global emissions, but I feel like while that already is difficult in itself- the fact of how driven by greed some people and administrations are makes it to where they cannot give up one way to get resources from the earth in order to switch to a more sustainable option.  It’s unfortunate because although majority of people take environmental issues seriously, that all gets thrown into jeopardy when a single guy doesn’t- who unfortunately also makes decisions for the whole country, it’s just very unfortunate.
