Privatization of our waters - Evie Cantú

A few weeks ago we touched on the topic of tragedy of the commons, as well as watching the documentary on the privatization of bodies of water I found it so crazy because it really shows how greedy some people are. Tragedy of the commons is something people engage in where they try to take all of a certain resource so that way other people are not able to profit off the resources. In the documentary it focused on the same idea but combined the privatization of water as well as how it affects not only everyday people, but also fishing industries. For the everyday people affected, it meant not having access to clean water because that particular spring or body of water was under the control of a certain company, and people had to pay to use the water. This meant some people were not able to have access to clean water which can cause many different health complications. As for the fishing industry, it meant that people fishing in those particular areas had to follow more strict rules than in the past, it caused a heavy upset in the fishing industries. I personally found all of it so unbelievable, water is something essential to all of us, and putting a label on who owns a certain body of water just negatively impacts so many people.
