The Story That Made me Smile for a Week Straight- Emma Schlosser

One day I decided to go on a little outing to a coffee shop in the area. I was driving in city center and noticed a large blob in the distance on the road. As I got closer, I realized it was a turtle. I always save turtles when I pass them but they have always, always been box turtles. This one though was large and I could already tell it was a snapper. I turned my car around and called my cousin for support. I know how to handle them but because I had never had to, I wanted at least someone to lay witness to the scene if I lost a finger. The snapping turtle was very large, probably about the size of your typical steering wheel if not a bit bigger. I made sure no cars were coming and went out to grab it. As soon as I would go to the backside of it, they would turn around so the head was always facing me, ready to attack if needed. I finally got myself in the right position and picked it up. As soon as I did, it started jutting its head out, making my arms move with it through the force. It was so surreal. I got it to the other side of the road (where it was originally headed) and thankfully there was a little pasture, emphasis on little, but no more roads. As soon as I put it on the ground, it started burrowing in the mud which I thought was interesting. I know this may seem like no big deal to some, but I felt/feel so proud of myself for doing what other cars who passed refused to do, and thankful no harm came to this amazing reptile.
